Optical Disk Piracy

What is optical disc piracy?
Optical disc piracy is the illegal manufacturing, sale, or distribution of motion pictures in digital disc formats (including DVD, DVD-R, CD, CD-R, Blu-Ray, and VCD).

These illegal hard goods are sold on websites, online auction sites, via e-mail scams, and by illegal vendors around the world.

While the majority of optical disc products seized by law enforcement worldwide are made in commercial scale burning labs, the low cost of disc burning hardware and blank discs has led to a sharp increase in the number and size of burning labs.

What is the CMPDA doing to combat the problem?
The CMPDA is committed to working with local and global law enforcement agencies to help identify and prosecute those who manufacture, sell, and distribute pirated optical discs.

If you have information about optical disc piracy that you would like to share with the CMPDA, please complete this form or place a confidential call to 1-800-363-9166.
