About Anti-Piracy Operations
The CMPDA’s Anti-Piracy division is staffed by a team of dedicated and highly skilled individuals who work with Crown counsel, law enforcement and community partners to combat illegal reproduction, distribution and sale of films and television programs and theft of satellite signals in Canada.
Anti-Piracy Operations investigates complaints of motion picture piracy on behalf of our Members and their affiliates and co-operates with law enforcement agencies (such as the RCMP, municipal, regional and provincial police services and Crown prosecutors throughout Canada).
On behalf of its Members and other interested parties, the CMPDA investigates piracy – specifically targeting the following activities;
- The manufacture, distribution or sale of pirated DVDs
- The use of the Internet to pirate motion pictures and television programs
- The illegal modification, distribution and sale of cable boxes, FTA receivers and direct to home satellite systems
- The illegal recording of motion pictures in theatres.
